France Elects New Parliament
Interactive Maps Track Results in Towns and Cities
France has elected a new parliament, and these maps show the results in every constituency. The results are a major setback for President Emmanuel Macron, whose party lost its majority in the National Assembly. Marine Le Pen's far-right National Rally made gains, becoming the second-largest party in the assembly.
Macron Loses Majority, Le Pen Gains Ground
Macron's centrist La République En Marche (LREM) party won the most seats in the election, but it fell short of the majority it needed to govern. LREM won 250 seats, down from 308 in the previous parliament. The National Rally won 89 seats, up from eight. The left-wing Nupes coalition won 131 seats, while the conservative Les Républicains won 62 seats.
The results are a major blow to Macron, who had hoped to win a second term with a strong majority in parliament. He will now have to rely on support from other parties to pass legislation.
